Zim Integrated Shipping Services is one of the most stable customers of the Cyprus ports serving the international trade of Cyprus since 1948. The recently approved purchase of eight 12,600-TEU Mega container ships, with an option to buy one more, to be delivered in 2012, adds to 12 ships already on order from Hyundai Heavy Industries, including eight 10,000-TEU ships and four 8,200-TEU vessels to be delivered at the end of 2009 and beginning of 2010, respectively. ZIM also recently bought eight smaller ships of 1,700-TEU capacities and two 2,500-TEU ships, so as to support and complement the services provided by the large ships.
This new purchase of very large container ships (“VLCS”) is another step in ZIM’s rapid growth plan, which to date is one of the fastest growing companies in the container shipping industry, with the aim to strengthen its position of leading global carrier.
