Danish home‑goods retailer JYSK announced its entry into the Cypriot market, with the first stores slated to open in April 2027. The move marks the latest step in the company's Mediterranean expansion and is expected to generate around 80 new jobs on the island.

Founded in 1979 by Lars Larsen in Denmark, JYSK has grown into one of Europe’s largest chains of household furnishings, operating over 2,800 stores across 52 countries. After establishing a strong foothold in Greece – more than 70 locations – the firm is now turning its focus to Cyprus as the next strategic hub in the region.
Planned store rollout
Initial plans call for the launch of two to four stores in Cyprus, with a longer‑term target of eight to ten outlets. All new locations will fall under the management of JYSK Greece, overseen by Country Director George Tsiros, who also serves Greece and Cyprus.
Logistics and port implications
The expansion will create new import volumes for Cypriot ports, primarily Limassol and Larnaca. JYSK’s product range – furniture, textiles, and home accessories – is typically shipped in containerised pallets. To accommodate the anticipated cargo, the company is seeking warehouse‑ready sites ranging from 1,300–1,600 m² (approximately 1,000 m² of sales floor), with direct truck access for last‑mile distribution.
Port authorities can expect an increase in weekly container calls from JYSK’s European distribution centres, mainly from Denmark, Germany, and Greece. This will provide an opportunity to optimise berth allocation and container handling services, reinforcing Cyprus’s role as a logistics gateway for the Eastern Mediterranean.
Employment and recruitment
JYSK’s Cyprus launch will create roughly 80 positions, ranging from store staff to logistics coordinators. Recruitment for the first District Manager is already underway, with over 100 candidates expressing interest. Applications are being processed through the company’s online career portal.
