Overview
At a press conference held on 26 August 2026 in Limassol’s wholesale market, Mayor Giannis Armevitis unveiled a comprehensive fleet renewal programme for the Municipality of Limassol covering the period 2024‑2026. The initiative, presented to municipal council members, department heads and staff, aims to replace ageing vehicles and machinery with modern, efficient units.
Investment Scope and Financials
The programme has already resulted in the award of 22 contracts worth approximately €5.6 million (excluding VAT). These contracts cover the procurement and maintenance of 70 new vehicles and specialised equipment. The financial breakdown is as follows:
- June 2024 – May 2025: €2,585,036.61
- June 2025 – 2026: €3,014,360.11
- Two‑year increase: +16.61 %
To date, 35 of the new units have been delivered, with the remaining 35 scheduled for receipt during 2026 and early 2027.
Emphasis on Urban Cleanliness and Coastal Care
A significant portion of the budget targets the city’s cleaning operations. The municipality has already taken delivery of:
- Four driver‑operated street sweepers (one donated by XM)
- Three electric pedestrian‑operated sweepers
- Two high‑pressure washing trucks
- One autonomous beach‑cleaning machine
Future deliveries will include four 19 m³ pneumatic waste‑collection trucks, three 22 m³ pneumatic trucks, one 12 m³ pneumatic truck and one compact‑box garbage vehicle. By the close of 2026‑2027, the fleet will be further augmented with two additional autonomous sweepers and three large 22 m³ pneumatic waste trucks.
Support for Technical Services and Municipal Mobility
The renewal also covers the technical services fleet, enhancing the mobility of municipal crews. Already supplied are:
- Six semi‑trailer/single‑cab trucks with tilt‑cabs
- One single‑cab truck with a fixed or tilt‑cab
- Three single‑cab trucks without tilt‑cabs
- Three double‑cab trucks
- One electric utility vehicle
- Seven passenger vehicles
- Three commercial vans
Expected Impact
The €5.6 million investment is poised to boost the operational capacity of Limassol’s municipal services. Faster response times, improved street and beach cleanliness, and modern, low‑emission equipment will enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors alike, reinforcing Limassol’s reputation as a forward‑looking Mediterranean hub.

With the remaining contracts slated for completion by the end of 2027, the municipality expects a fully modernised fleet that aligns with Cyprus’s broader sustainability and urban‑mobility objectives.
