The UK Chamber of Shipping has officially announced the appointment of Karrie Trauth, Shell’s Executive Vice President of Shipping and Maritime, as its new President. The election took place during the organization’s recent Annual General Meeting, marking a significant transition in leadership for one of the world’s most influential maritime bodies.
Extensive Industry Expertise
Trauth brings over 30 years of diverse maritime experience to the role. Her career began as a surface warfare officer in the US Navy before moving into the private sector, where she has excelled in leadership roles involving ship design, shipbuilding, digitalization, and decarbonization. Currently leading Shell’s global shipping operations, her background provides a unique vantage point on the energy transition and technological evolution currently sweeping the industry.
Joining the leadership team alongside Trauth is Donnacha O’Driscoll, Executive Vice President for Maritime and Sustainability at Carnival UK, who has been confirmed as the Chamber’s new Vice President.

In her inaugural address, Trauth emphasized the importance of maintaining the United Kingdom's status as a premier global shipping hub. Amidst geopolitical shifts and economic transitions, her presidency is expected to focus on:

Notably, Trauth is only the second woman to lead the UK Chamber of Shipping in its nearly 150-year history. "I want to widen the pipeline—for women and for men—and inspire young people who may not yet see themselves represented in our industry," Trauth stated.
